The 17 Equations that Changed the World || Part 1

There is a book called The 17 Equations that Changed the World. I think it is a great list but I believe that I could change it a bit. So here is my attempt at the 17 world changing equations.

17. The Drake Equation

The equation was proposed by a Frank Drake in 1961. The equation is supposed to show the number of  communicating civilizations on other planets. The reason its at 17 is because it is not solvable with our current knowledge about the universe.

16. The Pythagorean Theorem
This means that the square of the hypotenuse of a right triangle is equal to the sum of the squares of its legs. This is a core equation in a lot of geometry and algebra. This equations important to math but didn't really impact the world in a great way.

15. Circumference Equation
The equation above is used for finding circumference around a circle. In other words it measures distance around a circle. This is very useful and I believe that it is key to mathematics and the world itself.

14. Chaos Theory

Chaos theory is its own branch of mathematics. It is world changing though. The top image is "May's Logistics Map" It describes evolving through time. It is very complicated and hard to explain. The bottom photo is the double rod pendulum and is a common figure in Chaos Theory. It shows that the change causes a destructive reaction.

The Audible Spectrum || What we cannot hear

The topic of my last blog was vision so it is only fair to write about audio. The spectrum of sound is similar to sight except for a few key differences. Unlike popular belief, the speed of light is actually pretty slow. In comparison to sound, light loses the race. Sound can travel through almost all states of matter and materials. The ability of sound is so normal to most that people don't realize that there are plenty of things that we cannot hear.

We cannot hear ultrasound or infra sound. Some forms of infra sound can actually make you physically ill. Multiple nations are trying to weaponize the low and high frequencies to make an ultrasonic sound gun. It will effectively knock someone unconscious and they won't hear it coming.

This Long-Range Acoustics Devise (LARD) is currently in use on the USS Blue Ridge. It is a sonic or ultrasonic weapon. Some versions are used to injure, incapacitate, or kill an opponent. We are still ways away from recreating Saints Row's iconic dub step gun.

The usage of these weapons is no longer science fiction. There is working sound cannons out there. So many other versions of silent but deadly weapons using all kinds of different things. There are microwave guns and rail-guns that harness the powers of kinetic energy that give it the power to level city blocks. While this technology is scary it will give our countries military a huge advantage on defense and offense.
